This accreditation recognizes our commitment to the professional development of our people through “earn and learn” schemes – such as apprenticeships.
Three per cent of Crown’s employees in the UK and Ireland are in “earn and learn” roles, making the business eligible for Silver membership (2.5% – 5%) of the club along with 18 other organizations in the region this year.
The 5% Club is a dynamic movement of employers all of whom are inspired to take positive action for increased, inclusive, and accessible workplace training for all. Its membership now exceeds 900 companies, representing over 1.6 million employees, 101,000 of whom are in “earn and learn” schemes.
Having secured silver membership, Crown’s audit by The 5% Club, found that the company ranked well above the median scores for inclusivity and social mobility factors.
The Employer Audit validates the members’ activities, explores their future plans and commitments, as well as examines their approaches to quality, social mobility, diversity and inclusion. The audit of Crown’s activities in the UK confirmed that 40% of the company’s UK apprentices are female, compared to the medium score of 23% for the 180 participating organizations.
It also found that 54% of Crown’s UK workforce is black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME), compared to the average score of 12.5%, and that 67% are aged between 19 and 24, compared to the average score of 51%.
However, the report also revealed that 67% of Crown’s apprentices completed their apprenticeships, which is slightly lower than the average score of 70%.
Eileen Girling, Regional HR Director EMEA: “We recognize that the success of any business is reliant on its people, and we are committed to providing opportunities to staff to ‘learn and grow’ in the organization and develop and realize their potential.
“That’s why we’re investing to ensure that those at the very beginning of their careers can earn while they learn, developing core skills through on-the-job training and nurturing, while making excellent contributions to our success – setting them up for the future.
“I am proud that this has been acknowledged by The 5% Club in its silver accreditation for our UK business with the Employee Audit report allowing us to benchmark ourselves with other UK employers, and show us where we’re strong and the areas in which we need to improve – which we will seek to do to as we constantly strive to enhance our offering to employees.”
Mark Cameron OBE, Chief Executive at The 5% Club said: “Our Employer Audit scheme recognizes the efforts of all those Employers who invest in their workforce through a broad range of workplace learning schemes. It is fantastic that in these challenging times, so many are able to commit to the Employer Audit and to gain credit for their efforts, and that the majority are striving to expand their schemes over the coming years. Their efforts and achievements are to be applauded.”
